When I first moved from IL to AZ I had many people ask if I was going to start my portrait business again. I, honestly, answered at that time probably not. The value of photography seems to have shifted a bit in recent years and I wasn’t sure I wanted to start competing for my little corner of the market. Those in the industry will probably understand what I mean, and I really don’t want this to turn into one of those posts, so let me get back to the original intent of this post…this family. This family got me back out doing what I love, recording memories. Yes, there might be a little dark side to the industry, but I forgot what it was that kept me in the business for so long. There’s a connection you build with the families you capture as you record a moment in their life that tomorrow becomes a memory. I can honestly say this family is pretty amazing and I was honored they chose me as their photographer. Will I fight for my little corner of the market? I still can’t answer that with certainty, but for now I will take a limited number of sessions for families who value an experienced photographer and desire a custom experience. These pictures were taken with my 5DMkIII and 70-200 2.8L. My best suggestion when photographing little kids is to let them do their thing. If the session is fun for them, it will be much more pleasant for you too!
