This is a hike definitely worth spending at least 1 night backpacking, unfortunately I wasn’t ready for that. My local hiking buddy Jenny and I conquered about 7 miles total of this wilderness which seems like just a drop in the bucket. There is a $6 permit to enter this canyon, and the roads to get there are a little bumpy…thank goodness for the jeep! We entered the West entrance which is about 2 hours closer to Phoenix than the East. The East Entrance is 4-5 hours from Phoenix a high-clearance vehicle is definitely recommended. The West side, in my opinion, can be reached in a standard car, but the day we went is was extremely rainy and muddy. We decided since we had already made the plans and had the permit to hike regardless of the rain. The scenery was outstanding. Every bend we turned made us want to keep walking, but we eventually got so wet from the rain it became uncomfortable. This is definitely on the re-do list!
